VITALIS Code of Professional Conduct

PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

Code of Professional Conduct

The VITALIS Code is not a suggestion. It is the binding standard that governs every certified professional's relationship with clients, colleagues, and the public.

PREAMBLE

Why This Code Exists

The fitness industry has operated too long without enforceable ethical standards. VITALIS Lab exists in part to correct that failure. This Code applies to every individual who holds or has ever held a VITALIS certification — regardless of employment status, geographic location, or certification level. Violation of this Code may result in disciplinary action up to and including permanent revocation of certification and public disclosure of the violation.

SIX PILLARS

Core Principles

These six principles are non-negotiable. They form the ethical backbone of every VITALIS certification and every coaching decision.

01

Client Safety Above All

Guardian-First Decision Making

The VITALIS certified professional shall never prioritize performance, revenue, or convenience over the immediate physical safety of a client. When in doubt, stop. Assess. Refer if necessary. This is not caution — it is the foundation of professional trust.

02

Truth in Representation

Honest Scope of Practice

A VITALIS certified professional shall represent their qualifications, certifications, and competencies honestly. Do not claim expertise in areas outside your verified training. Do not misrepresent the evidence base for any recommendation you provide.

03

Informed Consent & Autonomy

Respecting Client Agency

Every client has the right to understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and what the risks are. The VITALIS professional shall obtain clear informed consent before any assessment or training intervention and shall respect the client's right to refuse or stop at any time.

04

Confidentiality & Privacy

Protecting Client Information

All client health information, assessment data, and personal details obtained in the course of professional practice shall be held in strict confidence. Disclosure is permitted only with explicit client consent or when legally required.

05

Professional Competence

Continuous Learning & Recertification

The VITALIS professional shall maintain current knowledge through continuing education, remain within the boundaries of their certification, and pursue additional training before offering services in new domains. Stagnation is not a neutral position — it is a drift toward incompetence.

06

Non-Discrimination & Inclusion

Equitable Access to Coaching

The VITALIS professional shall provide services without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other protected characteristic. Every client deserves the same standard of care and respect.

RULES WITH TEETH

Enforceable Rules

The following rules carry specific disciplinary consequences. Ignorance is not a defense.

01

Prohibition of Unethical Sales Practices

VITALIS certified professionals shall not use fear, shame, or manufactured urgency to sell training services. Do not diagnose medical conditions. Do not promise outcomes you cannot guarantee.

02

Prohibition of Conflicts of Interest

When recommending supplements, equipment, or third-party services from which the professional receives financial benefit, full disclosure is mandatory. The client's interest must always take precedence over commercial gain.

03

Prohibition of Harassment & Abuse

Any form of sexual, verbal, or physical harassment of a client, colleague, or staff member is grounds for immediate certification revocation and permanent exclusion from the VITALIS professional community.

04

Mandatory Reporting of Violations

VITALIS certified professionals who witness conduct violations by other certified professionals are ethically obligated to report them through the formal violation reporting process. Silence enables harm.

CONSEQUENCES

Disciplinary Framework

The VITALIS Certification Governance Board operates a graduated disciplinary system. Severity is matched to the nature of the violation and its impact on client safety.

Informal Warning

Minor first-time infractions. Documented but non-public. Requires corrective education.

Formal Reprimand

Repeated minor infractions or single moderate violations. Public record for two years. Requires supervised practice review.

Suspension

Serious violations or repeated moderate infractions. Certification suspended for 6–24 months. Mandatory re-education before reinstatement.

Revocation

Severe violations including client harm, fraud, or criminal conduct. Permanent revocation. No reinstatement pathway.
